Leading An Alumni Network

Get Ready To Launch

Dear Future Alumni Network Leader,

Thank you for expressing an interest in leading a Middlesex Alumni Network. Based on your input and feedback, we've not only developed a strong understanding of what you want from the networks you hope to lead, but we've also learnt how best to support you in doing so.

Network Types Research

At your request, we asked our alumni, what types of Alumni Networks would you most likely get involved in, here's how they responded. With 188 respondents:

  • 36% said Industry Networks
  • 25% said Skills Networks
  • 23% said Location Networks
  • 13% said Interest Networks
  • and 3% said Identity-based Networks

We hope this gives you an idea of what network you'd like to start.

Get Ready To Launch

Things To Know

Here are some of the key things you need to know about leading a network.

We would expect you to:

  • Organise at least one 'Meet and Greet' event and at least one event or activity a year for the fellow alumni in your network.
  • Help to promote any events or initiatives organised by the central Middlesex University Alumni Association team that may be relevant to your Network's members.
  • Encourage your fellow alumni to get involved with alumni giving back opportunities, such as mentoring, giving talks or offering placement opportunities to students.
  • Keep the Middlesex University Alumni team up to date with your Network's activities and developments.
  • The Alumni team requires a lead time of 3-4 weeks to properly promote your events.
  • Lead your Network for one year, after which point you'll have to take part in an election process through self-nomination.

Everything else related to leading a network you will find in the Trello board under 'Leading Your Network'.
