Francesca’s research and practice focuses on the scale, able to build connections between spaces, people and objects, underlining emerging behaviours and strategies. Her work focuses on the transformative potential of Interiors as a driver of social change and a catalyst for cultural activation.

*Retailscape: this area explores the profound societal implications stemming from shifts in the significance of consumer goods, leading to the emergence of novel spaces dedicated to these goods.

*Adaptive Reuse: the study and application of adaptive and sustainable strategies for repurposing existing spaces and buildings that have outlived their initial purpose.

*Hidden Interiors: focuse on developing tools and methodologies aimed at uncovering and revealing concealed narratives within interior spaces.


Current Teaching

With over two decades of experience as an active member of the academia, currently Director of Programmes at Middlesex University, following a successful tenure of more than seven years as the Programme Leader for BA Interior Architecture. Extensive experience in teaching & learning at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels, in Uk and abroad.

Their working philosophy is characterized by an exemplary collegiate approach and a methodology that seamlessly integrates tools and strategies across the domains of practice, research, and education. This approach has established a widely recognized model for practice-led education and research-by-design, reshaping the contemporary understanding of the discipline and anticipating the challenges of the future. Biography

Francesca Murialdo BA. MSc (Hons). PhD. SFHEA, is Director of Programmes in Interior Architecture and Design at Middlesex University in London. Architect, PhD in Interior Architecture and Exhibition Design, she has practised and taught Interiors from 1998 at the School of Architecture and at the School of Design, Politecnico di Milano, before moving to Middlesex University in 2015.
