Dr. Giovanni Quattrone is a prominent researcher and expert in the fields of Computational Social Science and Urban Science. Driven by a deep passion for Data Science and interdisciplinary research topics, Giovanni has made significant contributions to advancing the understanding of complex social phenomena in both online and offline domains. Giovanni's research also encompasses the analysis of urban data, driving the development of data-driven solutions to enhance urban planning, sustainability, and livability. 


Current Teaching

Giovanni leads the MSc Data Science programme with a visionary approach to education, emphasising innovation and student engagement. Committed to creating dynamic learning experiences, he employs cutting-edge teaching methods such as flipped classrooms and integrates AI-powered online survey tools to create an interactive learning environment that resonates with students. By incorporating hackathons and classroom challenges, Giovanni fosters a collaborative environment where students actively participate, discuss, and refine their solutions, promoting peer learning and thus enriching their educational journey. His dedication to innovative teaching ensures that his classes are not only informative but also enjoyable, inspiring students to excel in the field of Data Science.

In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Giovanni showcases leadership in student supervision by presenting them with real-world Data Science challenges that have tangible impacts on society, industry, and research. Several of his supervised dissertations have garnered recognition, with extracts being accepted into prestigious conferences and journals. Giovanni further innovates the supervision process by implementing project management tools to streamline tasks, monitor progress, and facilitate effective communication with students. His supervisory approach is anchored in organisation, transparency, proactive monitoring, and timely feedback, ensuring a structured and supportive learning environment for students.


Biography

Giovanni joined Middlesex University in November 2016 and he is currently serving as a Senior Lecturer in the School of Science and Technology, Department of Computer Science. Prior to joining Middlesex University, Giovanni distinguished himself as a Research Fellow at University College London. To date, Giovanni has published more than 80 peer-reviewed publications, with over 1900 citations collectively (source: Google Scholar).
