Research activities

Research interests include the law relating to freedom of expression, defamation law, privacy law and comparative law.


Current Teaching

Undergraduate module leader on the LLB for Tort law and UK Company Law.

Postgraduate module leader on the LLM programmes for Comparative Corporate Governance and co-supervisor of PhD candidates in law.

Guest lecturer on the English Law of Tort and for some time also UK Contract law at the Catholic University of Lille in France.


Biography

Mariette Jones joined Middlesex in August 2008 as a senior lecturer in law, after having headed the Department of Practical Business Law at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa.  She acted as LLB Programme Leader at Middlesex from 2019 to 2024.

Mariette qualified as a solicitor in South Africa, where she was enrolled as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa in Cape Town in January 2000.  

She is a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the Society of Legal Scholars.
