Dr Moses D Lugos is a distinguished academic andprofessional in Blood Sciences, currently serving as a Lecturer at MiddlesexUniversity London. With over two decades of research experience in Haematology,Transfusion Science, and Immunology, Dr Lugos is recognised for his expertiseand contributions to the field. His research focuses on haematologicalmalignancies and the impact of novel anticancer candidates on cancer celllines, establishing him as a valuable leader and mentor in his field.
Education and Academic Background
Dr Lugos earned his PhD in Haematology and Leukaemiafrom the University of Liverpool, UK (2017). His doctoral research investigatedthe influence of Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection on follicular lymphoma, usinga comprehensive, five-strand design that analysed T cell subtypes, serumcytokine profiles, and intratumoral infiltrating cells in phase 3 clinicaltrial patients. He also holds an MSc in Biomedical Science (Haematology) fromthe University of Ulster, Coleraine (2007), where he focused on T cell subtypesin TB infection. He began his academic journey in Medical Laboratory Science, specialising in Haematology and Blood Group Serology, at Ahmadu BelloUniversity Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) Zaria, Nigeria.
Professional Experience
Dr Lugos commenced his career as a BiomedicalScientist/Medical Laboratory Scientist at St. Luke's Hospital, Akwa Ibom State,Nigeria, during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). Following this, heserved as a Medical Laboratory Scientist at Plateau State Specialist Hospital,Jos. He later joined the famous School of Medical Laboratory Technology, Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) Zaria as a lecturer (tutor). In 2000, he was recruited bythe Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a Technical Aid Corps volunteer, serving as a Haematology and Blood Transfusion expert at the Royal VictoriaHospital, The Gambia.
Dr Lugos's tenure at the British Medical ResearchCouncil (MRC) Laboratories in The Gambia (2002-2007) further honed his researchskills, where he applied advanced research methodologies, including multicolourflow cytometry, Luminex Assay, and Immunofluorescence. During this period, hecontributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications and taught in the Universityof Westminster's Diploma in Biomedical Science programme for the African Pathway.
In 2009, he joined the University of Jos, Nigeria, as aLecturer in Haematology and Blood Transfusion Science, rising to SeniorLecturer and Reader (Associate Professor) by 2021. He has also held notable academic leadership roles, such as Departmental Postgraduate Coordinator and member of the University of Jos Ethics Committee.
Academic and Community Contributions
