  • Representations of gender and ethnicity in accounting
  • Impression management and the accounting profession
  • Accounting education and ethics

    Biography

I have been part of the DProf (TransdisciplinaryPractice) team at Middlesex University since September 2020 having previouslyspent 22 years in the Accounting and Finance department at MiddlesexUniversity. I requested to join this team because its approach and philosophyresonated with my own practice development, it opened doors to interconnectingsectors and disciplines rather than working in silos and prescribed methods.

I enjoy research particularly when I approach itwith an open mind to what may emerge rather than what I expect to come out ofit. I also like to focus on the important but less noticed issues. My researchbackground reflects this. My formative discipline and academic practice area isAccounting and Finance and Communications Policy. My PhD, over 20 years agonow, on 'Gender, Ethnicity andProfessional Membership: The Case of the UK Accounting Profession' was anunder researched area at the time. While I am fascinated by the theory ofAccounting, my passion is in the threads that link accounting to social issuesand to make those threads stronger in the eyes of the academy the public andpolicy makers. I am now more involved with creating stronger links betweenmulti sector professionals and the academy and what we can achieve together.
