Current Teaching

With a versatile teaching portfolio, Sophia has taught in programmes such as BA Publishing, BA Media and Cultural Studies, BA Advertising and Media, BA Magazine Design, BA Digital Media, MA Media Management, MSc Creative Technologies. 

Sophia was the programme leader for BA Media and Cultural Studies and BA Publishing and Media. 

Sophia is a PhD and ArtsD supervisor. 

Practice based teaching includes: and magazine and web design, Social media promotion and content creation, augmented reality tours and interactive maps.  

Sophia has expert knowledge of the ADOBE suite, good understanding of HTML 5 and java script.

Theoretical contexts that underpin her teaching include: introduction to media studies, semiotics, cultural studies, privacy, creative licensing, 

Teaching strategies include: Peer learning and assessment, interactive tools in the class room such as slido and commissioned student work.


Biography

Dr. Sophia Drakopoulou is a Senior Lecturer in Culture and Media Communications and a Director of Programmes in the Film School at the faculty of Arts and Creative Industries. Her research explores networked technologies, the city and everyday life. Sophia is a co-founder of Cybersalon www.cybersalon.org

Sophia's research explores the effects of networked technologies in every day life and looks at the experience of space and time in location-based media, and social media. She consults on social entrepreneurship and social media strategy. 

Sophia publishes in peer review journal on subjects such as: people power and SMS, locative media movement, location-based technologies in everyday life, critique of augmented reality applications and commercialisation of urban space, open data possibilities and limitations.
