Research activities

Shuo Liu research interests center on media production analysis, with a particular focus on television production and the media and creative industries. Her current work examines representations of the Chinese countryside and the reimagining of rurality. Through ethnographic research conducted in Beijing and Zhejiang Province, she explores changes that have occurred since the launch of the Rural Revitalization program and the rise in popularity of the slow television show Back to the Field.

She also served as co-leader of the policy group for the UK-China Creative Industries Research and Innovation Hub.

Biography

Shuo Liu is a Lecturer in Digital Branding and the Programme Leader for the BA in Advertising, PR, and Branding at Middlesex University London. She holds a PhD in Media and Creative Industries from Loughborough University London, an MA in Media and Public Relations from Newcastle University, and a BA in Broadcasting and Television Journalism from China. Prior to her academic career, Dr. Liu worked as a PR consultant specializing in high-tech industries for a global PR agency and gained experience as a journalist in China.

Shuo's research interests focus on media production analysis, particularly in television production and the media and creative industries. She actively engages with professionals from the advertising, PR, and branding sectors, seeking opportunities for industry collaboration, research-informed teaching, and knowledge exchange.
