“I warmly congratulate Nic on his appointment and wish him every success in his future role. His appointment is a wonderful accolade and achievement and I am sure that the University of Salford will benefit from his vast experience and extensive leadership in higher education.
“I am extremely grateful for Nic’s effective leadership over the past three years. The University is in a strong position to continue to successfully deliver Strategy 2031 and to secure our future success in challenging times for higher education. Nic's inclusive approach as we developed Strategy 2031 provides our University community with a strong set of values and mission that colleagues are continuing to shape and influence.
“We define ourselves as a global family, and are committed to growing the size of our international campuses and connecting education and research in London to our overseas faculty and students. We will continue to build on our ethos as a learning organisation based on our coaching approach to leadership and a highly engaged way of working with students, in many cases operating in co-leadership.”
Commenting on his tenure as Vice-Chancellor of Middlesex University, Professor Nic Beech said:
“It has been an absolute privilege to have been Middlesex University’s Vice-Chancellor. I have met so many amazing students and staff across all our campuses and have constantly been inspired and energised by the commitment, purpose and dedication of the community. I have learned a great deal from and with you all about what it means to be part of a values-oriented community and I have changed and grown as a person as a result.
"I can’t find the words to really express what I feel, but I want to say a huge thank you for taking me in and enabling me to grow and more than that, for the transformational learning and impact you deliver every day, along with the many unseen kindnesses and moments of going the extra mile that make Middlesex what it is. I know you will go on to do amazing things. I carry Middlesex with me in my head and in my heart, and I will always be a strong supporter and advocate for Middlesex.”
The Board of Governors, led by Chair Rebecca Lawrence, is now starting to search for a new Vice-Chancellor for Middlesex University.
