Business and Management Course Ambassador

Starting my master's degree seemed to be a natural direction after finishing undergraduate studies given my diverse interests and desire to start my own business soon.

Choosing the course at MDX that I was keen on exploring felt like the most appropriate and logically easiest thing to do as I was already familiar with the university, knew the people and lecturers and great facilities MDX provides.

My course in Innovation Management and Entrepreneurship is simply amongst the most prestigious I could find because of its diverse focus, practicality and opportunities it provides. The thing I love the most about it is how approachable our teachers are. They can really tailor the experience of the course given my interests. I also like how frequently available they are for mentoring and feedback sessions. Additionally, there are opportunities to hear and meet experienced guest speakers from the industry who are keen on sharing their entrepreneurial journeys.

MDX has a lot to offer. Some of the things I like the most about it includes the 24/7 library opening during the term time and free printing. There is also a lot of support offered from academic writing to legal advice which has been always very helpful. I love to spend time in the library and use all the resources available to students.

My favourite place to study is the silent floor where I can focus on my assignments. If I have a group task to do, there are plenty of spaces for it too!

To balance the focus time, I like to relax in the Grove Park during spring and summer or just sit in the Quad which is our main space in the university.

London has so much to offer and that is what I enjoy the most about it. I enjoy exploring new places and ideas while walking or cycling. There are so many parks to go to and landscapes to admire which is unlike any other city I have been to.

Currently, I am learning to become an interdisciplinary coach and I see myself having a mentoring/consulting career where I work with individuals or organisations to implement the most innovative ideas regarding personal growth, sustainability, nutrition and solving systemic problems.

My favourite member of academic staff is Simon Best. It seems that we think in a similar way and I like how he gets students to think more deeply about the surrounding world paying interests in the notions of innovation, creativity, social networks as well as psychology.

Advice for students applying for PG degree this September... Have some time with yourself and ask what it is that you really love to do in life. I think that having this in mind will benefit your postgraduate research and choosing the right path. Postgraduate degrees are challenging, but they also should be great fun and having the initial idea how the course will benefit your future will get you excited and focused. Once you are on it, you will be enjoying the people you network with and the deeper knowledge and practice you came for.

My typical week consists of a range of different activities. I usually have four lectures. Most of them are workshops where we engage with facilitated group discussions and activities. Some are more theory based, but we always try to find examples of applying this knowledge. Besides the Course Ambassador role, I also work as Student Learning Assistant for the first-year students studying Music Business and Arts Management course. On top of that, I take part in mentoring sessions for the Enterprise Development Hub where we network with students and help them develop their business ideas which has been very valuable. I also have a part time weekend job which fills the rest of my week. To keep focused and healthy, I cycle to the university, swim and go to the gym.

I have had a great time on the course so far. My favourite moments on the course are when we have a chance to hear guest speakers who usually have their own enterprises and share expertise with us. Additionally, I also really like the mentoring sessions when either our ideas are challenged, or we act as mentors for the third-year students. These have been invaluable experiences which I think will support my future career.
